Out of the Abyss is a great campaign that is poorly executed. THIS book fixes that. Well done.

I bought this hoping it would have organizational tools: spreadsheets of NPCs/villains, charts for tracking progress, maybe even some maps. It doesn't have any of that. It's pretty much just badly edited reorganizations of the sourcebook - which, given the distributed nature of the source, can give helpful perspective - and one DM's retelling of how some of the campaign went for his party - which, bleah. I'm kind of done with people who can't even be bothered to run spell check on something they want to sell to the public.

This guide is pretty helpful, giving some ideas on how to handle certain events and when you can trim or eliminate NPCs to keep the party mostly manageable. There are some minor editing quibbles that can make it more difficult to read at times, but overall, solid content!

Extremely helpful guide; I'd probably be a bit lost in my campaign without some of the advice in this guide.

I truly recommend this booklet for anyone who wants to run Out of the Abyss. The campaign is a bit of mess and this guide helps a ton.

Its great, as a new DM ive been able to pull out this campaign really good, my players would have died a long time ago several times if i have played it as a sandbox, poeple really need to know this guide its gorgeous and useful

I refer to this just about every week for my OotA campaign. Some ideas don't work for my group (e.g. the suggestion of teleportation circles), but everything here definitely gives me stuff to think about when preparing. And, given the famously poor editing of the adventure itself, Ruiz has done an admirable job of collecting things together in a way that helps the rest of us make sense of the material.

The Out of the Abyss adventure is an extremely flavorful and epic adventure, but the module-- as laid out--can be daunting for even the most experienced of DMs. This DM Guide by Derek Ruiz, with its numerous tips, explanations, suggestions and easy to follow chronological guide is a gold mine. If a DM combines this guide with the Companion System (for easier handling of the numerous NPCs), the campaign will be a blast for all players, and fun to run without needless confusion!

Extremely helpful! Especially if you wanna get started and dont want to read the ENTIRE book as it gives notes in sections in the early chapters that are relative to later chapters. Very well done!
