Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition: Spires of Altdorf
Publisher: Cubicle 7 Entertainment Ltd.

A really fun but unusual adventure for WFRP. This is not your standard plot adventure where it's detailed scene by scene. The characters are sent to Altdorf to get a chaos dagger and find a way to destroy it.

Instead the book details a couple adversaries, what they want, what they might do in various situations, different ways they'll attack the characters.

It also details a web of NPCs with different connections to each other, how to roleplay them and what they know. There are multiple ways to get the item and multiple ways to destroy it detailed.

I'm running this adventure with WFRP4 and it's going really well. I would definitely recommend this adventure if you want a more open game but this adventure does need some upfront prepwork from the GM.

The Book of Random Tables
Publisher: dicegeeks

An interesting idea but unfortunatly not very useful. The random tables that aren't names just don't seem useable and the name tables need improvement. Some of the names sound like the wrong gender or just kind of sound lame. I wouldn't use them in my games so unfortunatly the book is kind of useless.

Wightchester: Prison City of the Damned

It would take a lot of prep work for this book to be usable at the table, which is a shame since if it was better organized it could be a pickup and play City crawl.

The lack of a proper side index makes it difficult to flip to one section of the city vs another quickly. I'm physically cutting the sides of the pages on my copy to make it usable but it would be better if this wasn't needed.

It also tries to add a mechanic related to sound attracting zombies based on how far away they are but I have no idea how that would be used practically since you would need to keep track of every zombie within 1600 feet. Probably it would just be easier to invent your own random zombie system than use the one in the book.

Also since it's trying to be compatible with 4 different systems(DnD5e, Grimdark, LotFP, MB), the bestiary entries can feel bloated, pushing out the page count and making it harder to use.

Sorry you feel that way since 'zero prep' was one of the major goals of the design. You don't need to read ahead, because everything is presented for you, in detail. The multiple systems only added 2-3 lines at the bottom of each entry, which doesn't seem excessive. Still, sounds like you're going to use it, so it must be working a little!

Overall I like the idea of this adventure and even like the potential endings but in preparing to run this as a one-shot I have found more than a few issues with the PDF.

  1. There is a list of all 30 calamities that will occur on a summary page, but the order of the list is not in the order they appear if you follow the daily summaries, making that page kind of useless.
  2. There is inconsistent language used, for example one of the characters is sometimes refered to as the "Town fool" but other times as the "Town Uncle"
  3. Each of the 30 key characters has a page or more describing them but instead of having bullet point style information, it's formatted into narrative stories that you will need to read and summarize to get anything useful out of
  4. Notice that it says each of the 30 key characters? That's important because each character actually has a bunch of related characters who aren't considered key so they don't have any info on them but also more importantly they don't appear on the player handout. This is actually kind of important because the players would then know it can't be the Mayor's husband since he is not on the handout etc. Since I can't predict who my players might suspect, it kind of makes that handout pointless.

So although I like the idea, and it has some nice attempts at summary pages to organize things, I think if you try to actually run this, you'll realize there is quite a bit of work you will need to do up front to untangle what is and isn't usable.

Tachyon Squadron • Inside the Dominion of Unity
Publisher: Evil Hat Productions, LLC
by Benjamin W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/10/2021 12:17:53

The Good New Type of Ship detailed Two new factions detailed Some good new modular equipment for your ships

The Bad The book only contains 4 pages of information about the culture and setting of the Dominion of Unity. Of those pages it uses 2 of them to tell you that the Dominion is Capitalist / anti-religion / racist / anti-lgbt. It also says that "exactly the same-thing" applies to the good guys, they just feel bad about it.Then it includes a half-page disclaimer telling you to not do any of that as a GM because your players likely won't enjoy you acting like a bigot towards them. So really this book only includes 2 useful pages of world building information on the Dominion of Unity.

The book explicitly tells you how to play this game. You should essentially play as a rebel force and the Dominion is "unambiguously villains". This severly limits any GM creativity with the setting if you follow the book as written.

Final thoughts Tachyon Squadron is an interesting application of the Fate system to a dogfighting starship combat realm. I could definitly see applying the system to a Battlestar Galactica / Star wars Rogue Squadron/ etc type game.

Unfortunatly the setting is essentially trying to force the GM to make a game where they make all characters bigots and 1-dimensional racists. I don't know anyone who would actually want to play a game like that so quite a lot of the world building is just not usable.

The actual book and contents are great but the latest PDF has issues, specifically the bookmarks don't work. Considering the pdf is 401 pages long it would be really difficult to actually play without first editing the pdf to get some working bookmarks going.
