Dungeon Delving In The Desert!

PC’s get more than they bargained for when they undertake a quest to destroy a recently-captured tome of black magic. Standing in their way are an unforgiving desert, a cursed and ruined city, an ancient tomb, and a dried-up spring. Oh, and lots of unexpected foes and tricky situations, of course. This adventure features many challenging scenarios for 4-8 PC’s of 4th through 7th level. Designed for use with 1st-Edition and OSRIC rulesets, this module is easily adaptable to 2nd-Edition, Adventures Dark and Deep, and similar rulesets. The module consists of two volumes - this Encounters sourcebook, and a Maps & Supplements booklet:https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/253077/The-Book-and-The-Spring--Maps--Supplements, featuring a multi-location, challenging quest in a Mesopotamian-style setting.

The images cover the text in many cases

Thomas,
I've just double-checked both PDFs. I have text wrap around illustrations in some cases, but I made sure that no text was obscured by the graphics. Are you viewing it in Acrobat?

This is odd. It is fine on screen, but the copy I printed (my old eyes prefer a printed version) imposed the white background of the photos over the text. For instance on page 11 on the printed out version the white background covers "the suit" in the text in the sentence after the one ending in "450GP to the collector" However. if I print as image instead of regular it is fine.

Ahhh, a printer issue. So the text is still visible, but faded in the white box? I have similar issues occur in my real-life job sometimes, where EPS graphics (or PNGs, or other graphics that might use alpha channels or clipping paths) sometimes (not usually) put a light-colored box behind the transparent part of the graphic. As you mentioned, it will look fine on screen but depending on the printer, printer driver, etc., may show artifacts when printed.
Without going into long details, there are ways around this on the publisher's end, but it takes time, involving crafting new page graphics.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention - please use the "Contact Publisher" link in the upper-right of your screen and give me your email address so I can arrange a fix. I will cross-post this response on the companion title.

One small note to anyone reading this, this problem may be due to the acrobat reader update and no way reflects on this module's quality. Having read this adventure, I strongly think it will play well and is a great buy.

Thank you, Tom, I appreciate that! It was a 4-year labor of love.

It is one of the best fits for a port over to Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea that I have seem in a while. There are many great OSR modules, but not as many that can be run as a Sword and Sorcery style with such ease. This module reads like it was made for Conan and his ilk. In fact I should add that as a review.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
