Having loved and played EXALTED since its first edition,I admit to being skeptical that this new edition would be worth the money. I'm happy to say it is.
The world has been expanded in interesting and useful ways, and while not all my favorite places are
described in the core book, most are, and the new places are all interesting.
The comabt system seems complicated at first glance, though no moreso than the second edition, but i love the way it'sfocused more on cinematic flare than dice-rolling grind.
I very much like the way that sorcery and martial arts are handled. I always thought there was conceptual room for both Brawl and Martial Arts, and with sorcery having motes drawn from the world, rather than your Essence pool, having non-Exalted sorcerers totally makes thematic sense now, whereas we banned them in our second edition games. Cant wait for the necromancy rules!
The one thing I'm still a bit skeptical about is the new Exalted types. The core book has two new types fleshed out (Liminals and Exigents) and mentions a third by name (Getimians). I have never thought the game needed any more types of Exalted, but the Exigents are a cool and interesting concept that i will be interested to learn more about. The Liminals, well, frankly they seem like one of the developers said, "let's mix together the conceptual space of Abyssals, Alchemicals, and Terrestrials and see what happens!" I'm willing to keep an open mind until their splat comes out, though.
Lstly, I am a big fan of the way Excellencies have been made much easier to use, both conceptually and practically. Having them added to your character automatically makes them feel like the instinctual uses of Essence they are aupposed to be. Looking forward to more EX3!
