Spirit Dance
by Devon K. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/21/2013 18:17:59

I got this as part of the 2013 Read and Feed America bundle.

This is a fun short story. It starts of and gives you just enough information to know that something is going wrong. Things are already set in motion that the main character cares about. Then, it rockets you into an intriguing meeting and action. The mythology is very fun and interesting and this story is a great read.

It only gets 4 stars because it's very short. The writing makes you care about the characters and what happens to them and then, BAM, it ends. It seems more like the introduction to a novel than it does a complete story.

A Bird in the Hand
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/29/2012 11:21:26

How would you prove that you are who you are?

This short tale is told by a woman who is faced with just that challenge. Fine conspiracy theory secret government-sponsored group who are certain that shape-shifters walk amongst us, and that they can detect them infallibly through physiological measurements.

Or can they?

As they run their tests on a woman they are convinced is a shape-shifter her readings become MORE human, not less. How could they be so wrong?

Or are they?

Read this gripping tale and find out!

For the role-player: If you are running a game that involves supernatural beings, how would government react to them? Especially if they are still not sure whether or not they actually exist. What would happen if one of your characters fell into the hands of whatever agency has been tasked with finding out The Truth? And how would the supernatural beings react to the existance of such an agency?

Note: The actual story itself is quite short, most of the file is padded out with excepts from other Douglas Smith stories. As he tends to write short stories anyhow, what's the point? You like the style of the one you've just read, or you do not. (Relax, I do!) Go read some more if you do...
