What the Critics Say

"...the twenty-nine stories in The Complete Griselda are most enjoyable, and they do bring the exploits and tales of the ne’er-do-wells and miscreants who frequent Loud Lilina’s and—occasionally Rowdy Djoh Lo’s—to life in a highly entertaining and singular fashion. The Complete Griselda is rife with great characters, fun plots, and the type of situations in which player characters all too find themselves, but most all it is full of damned good stories."—Reviews from R'lyeh.

I bought this because i wanted to get a feel for the world of Glorantha. The writing style is very strange. It's like a 1930s noir style but transplanted to the Fantasy genre. Lots of referring to female characters as 'doll' and so on. Really strange choice of writing style for a collection of Fantasy stories.

I've enjoyed the stories I've read so far though, but it's inspite of the writing style rather than because of it. The main protagonist, Griselda is someone i want to know more about, and so i tolerate the writing style. It's a shame. It could have been soo much better. Still, If you're looking to explore Glorantha, or wanting to get a feel for this world than this is another step along that road. It won't tell you much about Pavis, and even less about Glorantha, but it'll give you a feel for it, if that makes sense.

So, i liked it. But i liked it 'despite ' the writing style!

I bought this book, because I know about the very good stories and writing style of the author, and for the little price during the special offer I could not afford to not have it. A must-read for a fan of Glorantha.
But otherwise….
Why do you call the link “Preview”? It isn’t. For somebody not knowing what to expect in the book, there is no value in it. There is not a single page of story to give you a chance to judge the style of the author. There is no teaser – I call this an anti-teaser. See above: If I hadn’t known about contents before, I wouldn’t have bought.
I can only guess whether this is publisher’s or DriveThru’s fault, but one of them should complain about the other.
If you can't bother taking the time to make a decent preview, don't put up a preview at all, because what you offer just makes you look incompetent.

Update Nov 2022: preview is now 20 pages and gives a good idea what to expect.

The PDF appears to omit the original front and back covers. I hope these can be added at some point.

Well, that addition was a little disappointing. I was at least expecting the covers to be attached to the main book file, not just 2 loose pages.
And of course, the document is locked, so one cannot put them where they belong.

Let's hope that a later update will include the covers as part of the PDF. I'd appreciate that.

I'd buy this if it was an ePub file or if I didn't have the original paperback. PDF is no good on an e-ink device and running it through a converter doesn't produce good results.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
