This is a module for the Fantasy Grounds VTT. If you are looking for the PDF - click here.

“A fantastic resource for DMs that want to keep players on their toes or want stronger or weaker variants of certain monsters.”
- Comicbook.com

“Monster Manual Expanded does a fantastic job of lovingly recreating monsters that were sadly missing from 5e.”
- Nerdimmersion

“The variants are more than additional stats for DMs to memorize; they are reference materials that enhance the known lore of beloved creatures, giving more clues to their ecological life histories and/or societal structures.”
- Bob World Builder

“The creativity and attention to detail that went into this already make it a must-have companion to your MM.”
- D&D Character Lab

“It gives you a wealth of options at various levels which just creates more replayability. Very well done! Well worth your money!”
- Allthingslich

Monster Manual Expanded is a source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

I have the PDF versions of Monster Manual Expanded I and II. My group has recently transitioned to Fantasy Grounds Unity and I am preparing my campaign for FG. Do they ever offer bundle deals to get I, II, and III for FG?

No bundles because different authors did them.

Both original and version 2 come with the module. I am guessing v2 is the updated module? Should I still load both in FG?

No reason to, I would just load the newer one, but you CAN load both.

This is such a neat option for this.

1)Are there any plans to expand this to any other VTTs?
2)With Roll20's partnership with OneBookShelf, would I be able to port the PDF into Roll20 and have the appropriate statblocks in the compendium?

1) Not at present (by me).
2) You'd have to ask the author of the PDF on that one.

Sorry. Found another spell with a typo. Chasme Tormentor darkness spell has a leading .
Easily fixed by the user but wanted to let you know it was there.
Thanks again. Have an adventure with about of dozen of these monsters from the MMExpanded. Players think they know what to expect and then they get hit with an ability unexpectedly.

Loving this mod. Quick note if you do updates. Treant keeper of the grove has two misspelled spells. Barksin vs barkskin and call woodland beings should be conjure woodland beings so they fail spell lookups.
Thanks for your awesome work folks.

Is there any way I could get the token pictures for these monsters? My roommate bought me the PDF and hardcover of the 1st expansion and I just bought the XXX and hardcover for the 2nd expansion. It would extremely helpful and save me a lot of time if there was anyway to get these.

The tokens are in the Fantasy Grounds module. You could unzip it and the tokens are there.

Hi! I recently switched to Foundry VTT, have you checked it out? Do you think it would be possible to get a Foundry Version of this compendium? I believe it should not clash with the sales model of DMSGuild and since you already have the data for Fantasy Grounds it maybe relatively simple to port it to Foundry with a little help of the devs. It would be HUGE to have ready to use monsters from this collection.

Does this MOD work with FG Unity or only with Classic? I've bought stuff from here before where the author essentially told me I'm SOL.

All Fantasy Grounds modules from the DMs Guild will (eventually) work with unity. Most work with unity now but keep in mind that unity is still a beta tested product. Fantasy Grounds is constantly updating and changing unity and so DMs Guild material is not guaranteed to work with unity until it’s final release but again most products do now without any problem.

I’m glad I waited to buy the PDF now that we are forced to play online. We just purchased FGU and I’m excited to use it!<br>
<br>
Does this only come with files for FG? Or is it the PDF plus the mod files for FG?<br>
<br>
So, if I wanted to sometimes just read casually with my iPad I could do so with the PDF and when I sit down to run a game, I could do that too? Or do I have to buy the content twice for that capability?<br>

Jeffrey:

FG modules and PDFs are sold separately. There is an entirely different set of people who create them and an alternate commission structure.

Hello, I recently bought this as it sounds and looks pretty good, having more ways to spice of the monsters is really cool, but I came across an issue, I don't know if this is on my side or something with the module. it seems that some of the spells of NPC's aren't working as intended, half/most of the spells work, but a few of them come up with an error in the chat and doesn't appear in the spell list. Text from the error here.

Spell lookup failures: * mage armor, * ray of enfeeblement, * web, * bestow curse, * vampiric touch*, * evard's black tentacles

I've ensured all my modules are enabled, and I have all the spells working on other NPCs/PCs, just with this one. otherwise it has been good so far. thanks.

There are several monsters where it looks like the parsing didn't take right on this one. Looks like it's mostly monsters with spells. The elder night hag, and the elder green hag are some specific examples.

Download and check again. Make SURE you have both PHB and Xanathar's Guide OPEN IN YOUR LIBRARY. That's where the spells come from.

Already planning the use of some of these exciting new creatures in this module. :)

I've noticed that a lot of the images are a bit blurry due what I am guessing is due to them being saved in lower quality to make the module and tokens smaller.
Given the choice, I'd rather have clear images and tokens to look at and show my players, at the cost of a bit of memory to accomplish this.
Particularly with FGU just around the corner.

If you have access to the original art in higher quality, would you consider releasing a high definition version of the module?

Ah I see, that makes sense then, it's all good.

Where there is a will there is a way. I've managed to go through about half of the images so far and have found the original ones online for the majority. So before I know it I'll have things set up the way I want it.

Thanks for your work on this module, getting all sorts of ideas looking through it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
