Shattered: A Grimdark RPG

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Delve into a world of perilous exploits and horror!

Shattered is a self-contained tabletop RPG that is built on a unique die system providing players with a tangible sense of growth. Inhabit one of eight distinct races and explore the dangerous post-apocalyptic world of Feneryss. Millennia ago, millions sacrificed themselves in a ritual to the dark god, Ragnarok. The blood rite failed and rebounded on the planet, capsizing entire tectonic plates, replacing once plentiful oceans with molten rock, and calling down catastrophic storms to ravage what remained.

Battle monsters and master the varied ecosystems of Feneryss using a classless, XP-based progression system that puts you in control of your destiny. Craft weapons, armor, prosthetics— and more. Cast magic, use psychic powers, and call down the power of faith to level your opponents, all from atop an airship of your own design.

GMs can take full advantage of more than 50 pages of lore to develop a compelling story. Additionally, they can use the robust creature creation system as well as pages of advice to help make their campaign unforgettable.

This maybe an odd place to ask but I was going over the Arkana rules and in the overcasting part it notes you can get an overcasting point if you don't prepare your spells. I was wondering what that meant since it doesn't state anything about preparing spells anywhere else.

For future products or updates, a couple of things would be helpful.
1. I may have missed it, but an explanation for why the undead aren’t bombed out of existence by airships. A handy one would be some sort of flying threat that accompanied the undead on their circuit.
2. At least some of the cities have standing armies. Since pretty much the beginning of time, standing armies have had standardized weapons and equipment. There are various good reasons for that. Some discussion of army equipment and arms and details of what those are would make a lot of sense.

LOVING this RPG!!! ATM I am work my way through in an attempt to understand the mechanics of it all. I have one question:
On page 103 - under Racial Talents for the Wretched - Poison Immunity mentions: "When taken, the Wretched becomes immune to 1 bane."
I cannot find Banes mentioned anywhere except in the Lexicon which says it should be on page 162. However, when I go to page 162 all I see are Biomods.
Looking for help to understand what Banes are etc. I'm assuming they are poisons and toxins.

Maligaant M,

Sorry for taking so long to respond! Banes are the negative effects of potions (See Alchemy p 166-169). So if someone were to toss a potion at you with negative effects (banes), you could ignore 1 of them.

The AP required to reload seems to need a bit of work. There are some talents and enhancements that make it faster to reload, but they won’t affect most weapons (at least the examples) since almost all of them have a reload of 1 AP. Also, the Nest of Bees reload is incorrect even by the rules as presented. The AP should be 6 (maybe 7, not sure if you round up or down for every 5 rounds). The verbiage for that weapon says it takes an hour to reload. I recommend a higher starting reload than 1, with enhancements for cartridges to improve reload time. Maybe a flaw for slow reload as well would make sense.

Thanks for reaching out with your concerns and for your suggestions. We will definitely explore them in our coming update.

Most of the 'pre-made' weapons you'll find are exactly that and are intended for new players and/or early parties who want to jump in and get going. To that end, your assessment is correct, the Rapid Reload talent will not generally prove useful when paired with those weapons. The intention, however, was for players to eventually need to craft their own, higher-tier, weapons or have someone (PC or NPC) do that for them. When that happens, they have a choice. The first is to have a low ammunition count while having to reload and spend AP more frequently. The second is increasing the total ammunition count of the weapon, having to reload less often but at greater AP cost. The second option is where the Rapid Reload talent comes into play.

As for the Nest of Bees, there is an issue there with that weapon, as you have alluded to, but it comes from the weapon's description...See more

That system needs overhauling pretty bad.

By your rules a two handed rifle of grade 2 (out of a maximum of 5) with 4 dice of damage (the max for the grade), a range of 20 and an ammo cap of 10 (which is the maximum you can have to make the reload take only 2 AP) comes to a total of UC 25 and 1270 notes, which makes it a low-mid tier traitless weapon that the player needs to spend well over half the money they earn by the fast progression rules in the book just for materials. Also note that this weapon does not have any trait allowing for combat options with higher ammo consumption, so that clip of 10 will last it for 4-5 turns.

Furthering this line of thought, it is all well and good that you allow for more than 10 dice upgrades for a rank 5, but buying just the 10 dice takes 22000 notes. Even provided you do not need to spend on armour, repairs, food, water, travel, accomodations and so-on, many campaigns will never get that far.

I understand that the book should not need...See more

Thanks for your feedback! Initially, we designed Shattered to have scarcity, good weapons and armor are things meant to be hard to come by, if not incredibly rare. While this may not be everyone's cup of tea, the items you put together in your feedback above seem to reflect this intention.

That said, we are always looking for ways to better optimize our game to fall in line with our overall design goals. If you are interested in discussing this further, please consider joining our Discord server (https://discord.gg/inde). We relish any opportunity we're given to interact with and learn from our fans, the larger tabletop community, whether you like Shattered or not. There's something we can learn from everyone.

Failing that, we are currently working on a loot drop system in our upcoming expansion, that should help to address some of your concerns.

Thank you.

Excellent product. However the links in the description do not seem to work. I'm not sure whether it's drivethrurpg's formating, or you just need to hold a key while clicking, but I tried everything that came to mind.

5 STAR REVIEW

I acquired this manual outside of drivethru, so I can't leave this under the review tab, but wanted to share my experience. Firstly the art is AMAZING. For anybody that artwork is important, this is filled with beautifully illustrated pieces clearly denoting the world and those who reside within. I know using your imagination is a main component of TTRPGs, but putting your mind into the provided setting is so easy through the provided imagery.

The mechanics are excellent. I have experience with D20, FATE, Powered By Apocalypse, D6, diceless, etc. and I've had various struggles with each, but this just clicked for me. The "wrap around" is so easy to follow and the way challenges increase is rather seamless in my opinion. Taking actions in combat uses points and then you make your checks making combat quite tactical. I want to avoid as spoilers, but there are a lot of options. Speaking of options, the classless XP based character creation has substantial depth. I...See more

Hey Pawel D, thanks for asking! We estimate that there's about a third of the book is lore. Half of that lore is interspersed within the book while the other half in within Chapter 1: The World of Shatered.

1) The preview doesn't work.

2) Does anyone who bought this book has a review on it? The description is interested but a 30$ for PDF especially when it's studios first and only book is pretty much. I kinda want to at least have a clue of what I'll get for this sum of money

Its a little high then some of the other PDF's on here, but... I just purchased it and man the artwork is beautiful. I do recommend getting it.. it looks at first glance like a very refreshing and new RPG... something my table has been craving. I might actually do a real review of it after I read it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
