Line of Fire Issue #6: Full-color Scenarios, Battle Reports, Articles, a Variant, an LOS Guide, New Counters and a Map.


Line of Fire #6 contains content covering games from the Falkland Islands to FlintlockA Ring of Hills brings the squad-level intensity of the Lock ‘n Load (LnL) system to the disputed, windswept islands in the South Atlantic, detailing the brief but bloody war over the Falklands. The module’s units, new mechanics, and tactical insights are revealed in an expansive article. Also on the LnL front are an LOS Guide and a new scenario for Heroes of the Blitzkrieg and a clever variant for the popular mystery counters in the Noville scenario “Closing the Sack.”
 

Two new scenarios for Flintlock: Carolina Rebels, played out on a new 8.5”x11” map, present the furious skirmishes that bookended the critical Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Both scenarios pit “Light Horse” Harry Lee and his Legion against the baleful Banestre Tarleton and his Legion Horse; and these scenarios’ smaller scale make them ideal for learning the Flintlock system.
 

The battles in the World at War system continue in two new scenarios that utilize components from Eisenbach Gap and Blood & Bridges as well as a formidable formation of Soviet T-80s, the 13th Guards Tank, and the versatile American Task Force 1/68.     Line of Fire #7:  Seven is Considered a Lucky Number, and Line of Fire #7 Contains Seven New Scenarios, Four of Them Played on New Maps!

    This issue of Line of Fire finishes off Arrigo Velicogna’s serial World at War (WaW) modulette Munich’s Highway, which began in Line of Fire #4, with its final two scenarios, “Operational Maneuver Group” and “Armored Acorn”. The WaW system is also expanded by three other scenarios, two of which are played out on a new 8.5”x11” urban map of the strategic port city of Bremerhaven. A Terrain Effects Chart is included for new terrain such as Suburbs, High Rises, and Stadtautobahn hexes. Frequent scenario designer Jeff Schulte also shares his tips for designing scenarios in “The Ever-expanding World at War.”
     

    Die-hard Lock ‘n Load (LnL) fans can enjoy action from Operation Torch in Morocco in November of 1942. A new 8.5”x11” map of desert terrain sets the stage for the American 9th Infantry Division getting its first taste of combat against the Vichy French defending the Kasbah at Mehdia; or join the 3rd Armored Landing Team as their M5A1 Stuart light tanks engage in a gripping battle against a swarm of Vichy French Renault R-35 tanks moving along the road from Rabat toward the crucial airfield at Port Lyautey. Also, a breakdown of the units in Heroes of Gap will whet your appetite for squad-level action in the Cold War gone hot.
     

    Other features include an interview with many of LnLP’s regular artists about their craft, and with Summer Lightning designer Brian Train.

    Line of Fire #8 is loaded with over 60 full-color pages of super-charged content, covering a wide selection of LnLP game systems, a pair of new 8.5”x11” maps and 88 5/8” die-cut counters.
     

    Gain tactical insights on All Things ZombieTank on Tank and on two scenarios in LnL: Battle Pack Bravo. Learn more about Nuklear Winter ’68Space InfantryZombie War and House of Spirits. Check out the detailed and dynamic action in two World at War (WaW) battle reports, and one from Totensonntag. Play the first three scenarios in a new—and ongoing—WaW module, the SADF Chapter, which extends the bleak edge of the Third World War to Africa, as the South African Defense Force takes on the determined tandem of the FAPLA and their Cuban allies.     Line of Fire #9


    Issue #9 of Line of Fire is packed with 65 full-color pages. Nations at War: White Star Rising takes center stage, and the stage is Normandy in 1944. On a new 11”x17” map, two tenacious scenarios unfold as infamous German panzer ace Michael Wittmann, with his own new counter, takes on large numbers of British tanks in and around the town of Villiers-Bocage. A nifty, three-scenario campaign follows the American 507th PIR of the 101st Airborne as its intrepid paras strive to secure their objectives on D-Day; it includes new rules for refitting based on the outcome of the previous scenario.
     

    Play a pair of gripping Forgotten Heroes scenarios based on the action recounted in the article “The Battle of Northern Arizona” from Line of Fire #8. The World at War SADF Chapter continues with another pair of scenarios that bring over 30 new counters into the action, including the FAPLA’s 9th Tank, the SADF’s 44th Parachute Regiment, and civilian refugees.     Corps Command: Dawn’s Early Light (DEL) takes center stage with an exciting, two-scenario expansion, High Noon at Gerzenburg, which takes place on a new 11”x17” map and features 40 new colorful counters depicting the American 11th Armored Division, Airmobile troops from the 101st Airborne Division, the West German 27th Panzergrenadier Brigade, the Soviet 171st and 232nd Motor Rifle Brigades and the 23rd Guards Tank Division—a recon battalion and four regiments. A battle report on the DEL scenario “The High Road” sets the stage for the continuing battle in High Noon at Gerzenburg.
     

    Check out Matt Lohse’s five-scenario linked campaign on the British Paras’ struggle around Arnhem during Operation Market Garden for Nations at War: White Star Rising.     These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

    For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

    For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
    Original electronic format
    These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
