Fracture, Sacrifice and Ruin, is a four volume epic fantasy tale set in a realistic world of refinement, taste and manners; where gentlemen still wear swords but carry a hidden pistol in case of difficulties next to a book of poetry. It is also a world of division between those who are privileged and those who have nothing and where some are quick to take offence. But it is also a world troubled by ancient demon-fuelled magick, illusionary sorcery fuelled by the very life-force of man, of energy weapons, living armour and a new force of mechanical-thaumaturgy rising in the east amongst the scattered remains of an ancient empire.

The ancient Arts of life-force stealing Sorcery and demon-summoning Magick are in decay. Thaumaturgy, a new powerful art based on energy-containing crystals continues to rise, despite being threatened by new technologies of water-power and gun-power weapons. It has been 400 years since the Anechaeron Kings, who used demonkind as energy and slaves, sealed the Fracture, a Demon revolt, in doing so ending their millennium long domination of the continent of Avoral. The new nations and people are content with their freedom from tyrannical rule and believe all danger has past.
Demonkind - ordinary beings until dragged through the distorting Void that binds this world with their own; transforming and twisting those who past through into shapes of nightmare with powers to match - are vengeful and angry over centuries of abuse. They begin to passed through the weakened Void that exists between the two worlds, plotting to punish man for his crimes against them, taking advantage that Magick is now weak.

Their one perceived obstacle and threat - Beren the hated and feared Mark of Nu-Anechaeron, the last and young arrogant inheritor of the Anechaeron King's knowledge and heritage - lies safe, virtually imprisoned on his fortress island, not permitted to leave by the power of the Triple Alliance who watch him. Magick, the Art of Demon summoning and manipulation, is nearly dead. Only pockets of fading knowledge remain.

Not being able to assault the Mark directly, the Demons send a Changeling, to draw him out, baiting him with false hope of reviving a lost warrior cult where each Knight is bonded with a demon to blend incredible power. Once he leaves his isle he is vunerable… If Beren should fail and die on the journey - then so be it.

Tobias, an aging and experienced forester with a secret past tracks the Changeling from its first appearance, to the city of Hern and beyond. With Dommy, young son of a friend killed by the Changeling, as companion.

Marisa, a tough scholar-explorer and secret sorceress from Meddenfast, along with her sister Andrea and partner Dalriadan, break into an ancient tome to recover an object for an unknown client. Her father secretly plots for her to help the Mark escape.

John Rusard, a lucky but craven soldier and a phobic, serves in a fort at the borders of the old Anechaeronian wastes. Surviving by luck, what fate will befall him?

Demos, fiery Earl of Lamorc, from common stock, is exiled by the dying King of Rotholm during an intrigue over a war with Angorad which Rotholm cannot win. He heads towards the Anechaeronian wastes, heavy of heart

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
