Kings Do Not Die, They Only Disappear

Years ago, Standish Fiske reigned as the one and only king of Manhattan. Now he is deposed, under house arrest, and seemingly the only one who remembers his past glories.

At least, that's what he thought until he notices a series of attacks on areas tied to his past. Someone, it seems, is trying to send him a message, but he doesn't know who--or what the message might be. To find out, he'll need to find a way out of his prison and back to his old kingdom. Then he'll see how many dots he can connect.

"Kings Do Not Die, They Only Disappear" is an original short story set in an alternate future North America that has been changed by the emergence of magic. Those with some power fight to get more, and those without power try not to get trampled. This story shares a setting with The Last Prophecies, the forthcoming epic urban fantasy novel. While the plot of this story stands alone, it presents a hint of a rich fantasy world of spellcasters, power brokers, and hidden machinations that will be further explored in The Last Prophecies.
