ACTION AND ADVENTURE, FROM PRE-HISTORIC TIMES TO MODERN DAY....

The latest entry in NUELOW Games' Robert E. Howard Collection series is something of a sampler. While the four classic pulp fiction tales featured in the book all take place in the Middle East or Asia, they show the variety in the types of stories that Howard wrote. While he could always be relied on for thunderous action, Howard wrote everything from fantasy, to historical fiction, to dark horror, and to outrageous comedy. In this book, you’ll get a taste of it all, against the dusty and exotic locales of the Middle East and Afghanistan, while moving through the ages from ancient times to the early 20th Century.

Included are the following short stor...

“I wish to Hell I had a dozen markets for historical fiction—I'd never write anything else.” --Robert E. Howard

Although best remembered for laying the foundation of the sword-and-sorcery genre with the creation of Conan the Barbarian, Robert E. Howard had all but abandoned the  fantasy genre at the time of his death in 1936.

Howard began transitioning away from the dark fantasy that been his bread-and-butter as early as 1931, turning instead toward straight action/adventure stories, as well historical fictions, like the five short novels collected in this book.

In Oriental Stories: Five Novelette's by the Creator of Conan, Ho...

Cormac snarled like a mad dog, his eyes blazing with a fearful light. "Who did the deed? He shall die, were he Emperor of Byzantium!"

Although groundbreaking fantasy writer Robert E. Howard is best remembered as the creator of Conan the Barbarian, more than a dozen other larger-than-life heroes and heroines sprang from his fertile imagination before his death in June of 1936.

Among these was Cormac FitzGeoffrey, a rage-driven Gaelic knight roaming the lands of Outremer during the time of Third Crusade and feared equally by Moslems and fellow Crusaders.

The Deadly Sword of Cormac collects "Hawks of Outremer" and "The Blood of Belshazzar," the two Cormac adventures that Howard comp...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
