Afya’s Pride is the story of Daniel Rhydwen, a boy from Wales caught in the turmoil of the wars between Britain and France in the early 1800’s, the Age of Sail. Following in his father’s footsteps he joins the Royal Navy as a young midshipman at age 11. He serves in the Irish Squadron and then the Jamaica Squadron before starting a new life in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
