Well written, thoroughly researched, excellently edited. Pictures, diagrams, notes - all informative, top-notch. This is not just a history of text games, but also a history of technology, and a look at how the society has progressed in the past 50 years.
I've been a big fan of the Princess Lucinda character in the past, a wicked 12-year old magical princess that uses her vast magical powers to rid herself of all the annoying humans that are unlucky enough to cross her path. What I really loved about the two previous graphic novels, "Black Rose of the Empire" and "Princesses in the City" is that they combined a ton of black humour (Lucinda transforming the "peasants" around her in all kinds of things, from two-headed toads to lollipops, never gets old) with actually interesting characters. Lucinda is by no means a good person - she destroys people's life for fun basically, and can be quite arrogant - but not only is she pretty funny, her relationships with her kinder older sister and her best friend Katelyn can actually be pretty touching and serve well to humanize her character her little.
Sadly, I found this continuation of the series rather disappointing. Not only does it not serve as a direc...

This is a really good quality deck, the art is superb and the cardstock itself is very good. The pdf booklet is also very useful for advice on how to use it in play. Highly recommended even for something other than mage.
The PDF is adequate in that these are the best scans of the first book I have seen, there is no moire and the colors are good. However most of the art has been butchered especially the two page spreads they don't line up properly and they are missing parts from the originals, you literally cant join up the spreads. This is unforgivable given the full price of the PDF is the same as a quality printed book, like the Chris Foss book, Hence a low rating from me.

When it comes to creating new things, ideas are a dime a dozen. Everyone has an opinion. Yet, it is easier said than done to create something that's logically coherent. Furthermore, the well of ideas tends to run dry too after a while. This is where the KOBOLD Guide to Worldbuilding comes in. While not exactly "meaty", it has plenty of advice covering a wide range of topics. Each topic takes up about 5 pages of information, but it's concise and to the point. If I had to nitpick though, it's that not all the topics are equally well-written, but that's to be expected from having so many contributors. Art in the book is also a little sparse. It would have benefited from having more accompanying visuals....
I bought this in paperback years ago when they first came out. I was a young man then and thought it was such a dark, depressing interpretation of the world I was gaming in.
Recently, I purchased them in PDF and decided to give all three books another read. Wow, I was surprised how much I enjoyed them and eagerly turned each page. It's not perfect writing, but it was still a ton of fun. They made me want to run a Coalition squad in the game as I could see many of the challenges and moral ambiguities that would cause one to both hate and love the complex Coalition States. The high-tech action scenes actually caused me to make some minor rules adjustments at my table regarding "active" and "passive" sensors/radar....

I really enjoyed this book. Reading about characters in Rifts Middle East really set the standard for anyone who might professionally write in that region in the future (looks to Sean and Kevin). Seeing the character grow from an obedient soldier to a faceted and independent character was a fun journey. Seeing the Phoenix Empire a bit more closely was enjoyable too. Made me really appreciate how depressing it might be to be human there!
Being a long-time player of Rifts, it made me consider running a game in the Middle East for the first time in my 30+ years of enjoying this unique world. Look forward to anything else your mind conjures....

Got my set today (1/2/2024). I'm extremely satisfied with the product. The print and paper quality are better than expected and of the same/similar quality to a standard Rider-Waite tarot deck. As for other reviews mentioning the lack of booklet, there is a free PDF that comes with the purchase, but I would suggest also looking up tarot tutorials on YouTube or going to your local bookstore or occult shop and pick up a few tarot books. Even if you don't practice occultism/Paganism, having the basic knowledge of tarot layouts adds a sense of realism to your game. It also might not be a bad idea to learn how to stack a deck so you get the cards you want every time. As for what the cards mean esoterically, you can either pick up a tarot book (particularly for the Rider-Waite deck) or just make it up for the purposes of your story....
