Broken Gods

It begins with a massacre on a city bus and the shooter's suicide. A mysterious man in black watches the spectacle, then moves on, pondering about a great battle soon to come.

Elsewhere, emotionally scarred 18-year-old Sabrina Matthews is offered the chance to become the living avatar of a goddess and jumps at the chance despite a depraved cost. Following a horrific dream-vision, Sabrina awakens to find that she has apparently murdered a young boy while she slept. Spurred on by the voice of her goddess, she flees into the darkness.

A year later, an amnesiac young man named Jacob dreams that he is walking through the landscape of hell itself, and then awakens in a filthy alley, covered in blood, his hand immersed in the chest cavity of a corpse missing its eyes and heart. A man in black emerges from the shadows, introduces himself as a god named "Jack," and informs Jacob that he has been granted great power, but at a price. After Jack saves him from the police, Jacob accepts the offer, despite the need to feed on souls to use his own power.

Sabrina seduces the two people closest to her as acolytes in her new cult, and she and Jacob begin a game of cat and mouse that could spell Armageddon if not contained. While Sabrina builds a cult for her mistress, slaughtering "sinners" in the name of the dark goddess, Jacob uses power over fortune and chaos to oppose her.

Across town a jaded homicide detective named Frank Hill calls his old flame, forensic psychologist Lexie Miller, to help him catch a serial killer unlike any he's encountered. Their rekindled love could be their salvation or cost them everything, for Lexie, too, is called to power and darkness by a beautiful woman in black, and Frank will receive a call of his own before the end: the ability to bring together the warring factions and stand against the machinations of the would-be gods.

The conflict escalates and the body count rises, from a nightclub massacre to an all-out war in the streets between the congregations of three suburban churches, until the motley group at last meets face-to-face. The battle comes to an explosive conclusion as one by one, the humans turn on their otherworldly masters. In the end, with the help of a true Goddess, Sabrina finds redemption by turning on her demonic patron and becomes the savior of humankind in a bloody showdown with the dark queen of Hell who started it all.
