Delta Green: Agent's Handbook

Silver Ennie Award winner for Best Supplement, 2016.

WELCOME TO THE APOCALYPSE

Born of the U.S. government’s 1928 raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, the covert agency known as Delta Green spent four decades opposing the forces of darkness with honor, but without glory. Stripped of sanction after a disastrous 1969 operation in Cambodia, Delta Green’s leaders made a secret pact: to continue their work without authority, without support, and without fear. Delta Green agents slip through the system, manipulating the federal bureaucracy while pushing the darkness back for another day—but often at a shattering personal cost.

In Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, you are one of those agents. You’re the one they call when unnatural horrors seep into the world. You fight to keep cosmic evil from claiming human lives and sanity. You conspire to cover it all up so no one else must see what you’ve seen—or learn the terrible truths you’ve discovered.

The AGENT'S HANDBOOK is a players-only rulebook for Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game. This new incarnation of the award-winning DELTA GREEN game line includes:

  • Rules for creating agents of all types.
  • Rules for tense, fluid investigations. Players who use their agents' skills in clever ways have the best chance to succeed -- and survive.
  • Nerve-wracking rules for combat, where random disasters can undo the most careful planning.
  • Mind-melting Sanity rules that see agents gradually deteriorate -- and sometimes snap.
  • Rules for "home" scenes where players see what their agents are fighting for.
  • Quick, intuitive rules to determine equipment and assets.
  • Dossiers on the federal agencies most likely to be featured in play.

Further terrors can be found in the forthcoming core rulebook of Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, which will include everything from the AGENT'S HANDBOOK and massive resources just for the Handler.

Can you please make the rules available in POD? I'd love to add these books to my collection but they go for crazy money second hand.

Yes. You can use the Agent's Handbook to play everything that's ever been created for Delta Green.

So, is this based on the original Call of Cthulhu rules, or are they developing an entirely new system. I'm hoping they aren't "updating" to the travesty that is 7th Edition rules...

It's derived from the original CoC rules, but developed in new directions (albeit trying to be backwards compatible). It is not based upon CoC 7E rules.

Could anyone clarify what the last line means?

Further terrors can be found in the forthcoming core rulebook of Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, which will include everything from the AGENT'S HANDBOOK and massive resources just for the Handler.

This seems to imply that the core rulebook would make this book redundant but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

It means Agent's Handbook is a player's guide for creating characters and other pertinent information players need to know to understand the setting. The full core rulebook will include everything within the Agent's Handbook along with everything the Handler (i.e. GM) needs to run the game. This way, players don't have to spend nearly as much just to create characters.

It's also handy if you don't want your players to have just rules they need to know without spoiling the backstory, monsters, spells, etc..

Remember, this is a conspiracy/espionage game. Information is compartmentalized.

Ahhh, ok, thank you for clarifying; as a perpetual GM I'm afraid I think of everything in GM terms so it didn't even occur to me that someone wouldn't want the core rulebook. Looks like I'll be placing an order in a day or so.

The secondary book, The Case Officer's Handbook, will include the Handler information for (what I'm guessing), creating scenarios, some opposition (hopefully rules for creating your own opposition), more setting information, and anything else in relation to creating and running a Delta Green game. It was the version I wanted to pick up because Kenneth Hite is working on it in conjunction with the remainder of the DG team and I'm sure it'll be chock full of awesome stuff. I'm really looking forward to it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
