Detailed Instructions

Almost all of the books available on DriveThruFiction.com are in a standard PDF format with a small watermark in the corner with your name. These files require only the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to use.

However, some of our products are in a secure eBook format. Before you download any of these titles you need to make sure you have downloaded the lastest version of Adobe Reader. You can go here to download the free reader. Before you do this, make sure to uninstall any previous version of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Reader that you may have.

Once Adobe Reader downloads and installs (or if you have previously downloaded and installed it), you then need to activate your copy of Adobe Reader to be able to read secure eBooks. Activating your copy involves creating an Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Management) account. This is a totally free service from Adobe.

To create an eBooks account:

  1. Connect to the Internet.
  2. In Adobe Reader, go to Tools > eBook Web Services > Adobe DRM Activator.
  3. If a dialog box opens, click Yes to launch your browser and connect to the Adobe DRM Activator Web site.
Note: To activate the eBooks Reader software, you need to create an Adobe ID and password, or you can use your Microsoft .Net Passport ID and password (if you use Hotmail, this is the same as your Hotmail email address and password). If you are a new user, follow the on-screen prompts to create an ID and password.
  4. Follow the instructions given on Adobe's site. If you have any problems with the process from this point, contact Adobe.
  5. Once you have downloaded, installed and activated Adobe Reader 6.0 you can start shopping here!

When Checking Out

After activating your DRM account as explained above and purchasing one or more eBooks from DriveThruFiction.com, the final page of the checkout process has a "download your documents" link. Click on that link to begin downloading your eBook files. You should see the following message in your browser if you are using Internet Explorer:

Acrobat Reader should automatically open, and the download of your book will start automatically. You will see a message telling you that your eBook is being added to your library, and then your new book will open when the download is complete. Enjoy!
